Spring is approaching and in Agrigento, like every year, the Almond Blossom begins which for decades has attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists who come to the city and do visit to the marvelous Valley of the Temples. The almond blossom festival was born nearby town of Naro, and is celebrated for the first time on February 27, 1938 in the splendid scenery of the Paradise Valley, filled with white almond blossoms. In the beginning it was a popular festival, a rural rite that celebrated the myth of Proserpina and was called "the party of the nova vintage".
Through the streets of the town paraded carts filled with flowers and beautiful women wearing rich costumes, but also dancers and street musicians. In 1953 the festival was transferred to Agrigento with the name of "Festival of the almond tree in flower", and since then every year it takes place in February and the protagonists are the local and international folk groups. The Almond tree in bloom is in fact the Festival international folklore, in which many local folk groups take part and from various parts of the world, who cheer the guests by dancing to the rhythm of the popular music.
